Life Gives Lemons, Detroit Makes Lemonade

Erik Proulx, Lemonade DetroitLast week hundreds of Michigan’s most creative, innovative, brilliant and entrepreneurial people gathered at the Detroit Institute of Arts for TEDxDetroit. Presenters, artists and performers shared their knowledge, passions and ideas.

One of those presenters was Erik Proulx. He is a filmmaker working on a documentary: Lemonade Detroit. He sees the hope the people of Detroit have, the entrepreneurial spirit that’s part of the lifeblood of the city and the stories of those that are actually stepping up to make a difference. While much of the world sees the city as a has-been, an industrial wasteland, he sees it as something full of ideas that are going to grow and reinvent something spectacular. Check out the trailer. Gives me chills every time.

Erik inspires me in the best way possible. He’s the kind of person that sees the greatness within people. He feels strongly that the people of Detroit are its future and the ideas they’re working on are going to make a real difference. I had the chance to catch up with him and find out more about his project:

Fundamentally, there is a spirit of hustle and hard work in Detroit that once changed the world and can do it again. It’s already happening. It’s great to see Erik’s vision for telling that story. The idea behind TEDxDetroit is “ideas worth spreading.” This is one of those ideas.

Become a sponsor. Spread the word. Share the trailer. Tweet about #lemonadedetroit. The more people talk about it, the more backers it will attract. If you want to get in touch with Erik, reach out to him on twitter or via erik@pleasefeedtheanimals.com.

What do you think is next for Detroit? What will emerge? What positive change do you already see happening?
